Welcome

Welcome to Mathmo.me?

This is the site of Clive Morris, an extremely experienced secondary school teacher who offers private tutoring in mathematics. Over the past 18 months  I have worked with 17 different students to support their learning and boost their mathematical confidence.

Who do I work with?

  • Students who are (or who will in the future) be studying for
    • GCSE Maths
    • IGCSE Maths
    • AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Maths
    • OCR Level 3 FSMQ in Additional Maths
    • Edexcel IGCSE Further Pure Maths
    • A Level Maths
    • A Level Further Maths
    • University Maths Entrance Papers such as STEP,  MAT or TMUA.
  • Able students who are looking for enrichment and challenge beyond that which they are getting in the classroom and who are keen to develop higher level mathematical problem solving skills. This may be students in any secondary years who want to do some interesting maths beyond what they meet in the classroom or want to engage more fully with things like the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust competitions or mentoring schemes
  • Students with ambitions to read maths or maths related subjects at university who either want to get a head start during the Lower Sixth on some of the skills or need some coaching to undertake university entrance papers in the Upper Sixth
  • Students who need help with particular topics to catch up missed work
  • Students whose confidence needs building

Where am I located?

I live in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

Where would tutoring take place?

  • Online
  • In students’ homes when they live in my immediate locality (or even further afield depending on the circumstances and for a nominal contribution for fuel). I have primarily worked in the Bicester, North Oxford, Woodstock and Abingdon areas (and slightly beyond Abingdon).

How much does tutoring cost?

My usual hourly rate is £60 for work at GCSE or A Level and £72 for work for University entrance examinations but I look at each enquiry individually to assess the amount of likely preparation time needed outside of the sessions and how long the arrangement is likely to be for. A normal session would be an hour in length.

My fees reflect the quality of coaching and support that I can give and the skills gained in my 35 years experience in the classroom and working with a whole range of different types of students.

Other things to know

I have an enhanced DBS certificate.

Moving forward

If you were interested in exploring whether you wanted me as a tutor for a family member I would normally want to sit down in person with you and them and chat through their particular needs, the reasons for wanting tutorial support, your and their ambitions and the frequency and length of sessions you were looking for. This would enable me to give an honest assessment of whether I feel that I would be the right person to work with them. It also gives them and you the option to get to know me a bit and to decide whether they would like to work with me!

To arrange a meeting please drop me an E-mail giving a brief outline of what you are looking for and the sort of times that would work to meet up and I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible. Please also include a phone number on which I could call you. I normally get back to any enquiries quite quickly so if you haven’t heard back from me it is worth checking in your junk mail in case my E-mail reply has gone astray. I look forward to hearing from you.
